Beef, the Wellburn Way

For Wildlife

Our cattle graze outside, all year round, moving to fresh pasture every few days. This mimics the way herds of cattle would graze in the wild, giving the pasture plenty of time to recover between grazings. Long grasses provide habitats for a variety of insects, mammals, amphibians and nesting birds and we see this biodiversity on our farm every day when we go out to check on the cattle.

For Welfare

The diversity of plants that our cattle have access to provide a strong foundation for healthy, hardy cattle. We provide our cattle with tree leaves in the summer, and dried ‘tree hay’ in the winter, providing diversity in their diet which is ideal for our cattle’s health, meaning we don’t rely on routine antibiotics or preventative medicines.

For the Future

Our regenerative grazing system builds resilience into our grass and soils, protecting against floods and droughts.

By using native breeds we are working with cattle specifically adapted to the Scottish climate, as happy in a drift of snow as a sunny spring meadow. Our hardy cattle are grown slowly, giving them time to build highly nutritious beef with a real depth of flavour.

We believe that regenerative, nature-friendly farming is the future of food that is good for the cattle, the planet and your plate.
